The Order of Melbourne transformed to host ‘The Naked Truth’ for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. The provocative name of the event, instantly invited a number of connotations – some that turned out to be more literal than others. While every participant was indeed clothed, the show attempted to strip away the mystery that surrounds an oh-so-glamorous high fashion shoot.
How was this done? The central stage was transformed into an all hands on deck arena with hair, makeup and wardrobe taking place before the curious eyes that looked on. The piece de résistance? Watching as a seemingly simple pose turned into an inspired shot with a few moments of styling, and one click of a button. Raising money in support of the Aids Trust, the Naked Truth joined together some of Melbourne’s upcoming fashion creatives.
The next to present was Elly Louise. Renowned for her ready-to-wear formal and bridal attire, the floor- length vintage style gown was for me, the show stopper of the day. Sunray pleated ribbon created a delicate halter neckline while simple beading around the waist added a simple, yet elegant touch. The understated glamour of the dress was complimented by a statement headpiece and accessories, splashes of purple and chunky pearl bracelets adding a modern touch. Truly beautiful.
The Naked Truth event was not what you would expect of a fashion show. The models were not always preened and perfect, the crowd not required to sit in silent anticipation. The only things scrutinised for perfection were the garments themselves – we saw the Naked Truth of course. September 09.
Elly Louise Ready to Wear 2009 By stylemelbourne
Elly Louise designs for the aisle to the resort as her Ready to Wear 2009 collection brings femininity to her bridal and swimwear collections.
Elly has returned to design basics and created gorgeous gowns for the classic female silhouette. Floating fabrics in soft spring shades gather and drape to create stunning bridal pieces fit for the modern goddess. Displaying a vintage feel, Elly Louise’s collection all highlight the waistband of the dress which leads to delicate frills and decorative trimming around the shoulders and décolletage. Taking in this season’s off the shoulder as well as our floral addiction, these dresses also have maxi merit. We’ve awaited the return to full gowns to the floor and romantic lace and soft chiffon all evident in this collection.
Halter necks fitted to a structured and detailed waistline fall prettily to the floor whilst a Grecian inspired gown gathers softly from a silk ribbon covered waist to romantic trimmings draping an off the shoulder piece. If you are not a bride, don’t fret, Elly’s classic designs will support evening and formal wear occasions. A striking black cocktail dress also features with white and black beaded trimming to emphasize a ‘v’ the neckline. Elly’s collection is modern and playful with quality fabric that puts a touch of romance in your day!
Made-to-measure swimwear is Elly Louise’s other forte – pops of colour and feminine cuts bring Summer closer to our wardrobes. With three staple strapless bikinis and two gorgeous Brazilian cuts, Elly reminds us to stand out on the beach. The strapless bikinis are all similar in cut and have the top of the bikinis bound by either buttons, clasps or rings. They are available in white in the clasp version or black in the ring and the buttoned piece features in a vibrant pink and purple fabric with colourful button design detailing. My favourites are the Brazilian cuts in the floral frill bikini. Both are created in gorgeous fabrics with all the detailing in the top of the bikini. The floral frill shows gorgeous spring pastels and Elly’s statement piece shines in blue and green metallic detailed fabric.
Spring elements of soft pastel shades, frills and playful trimmings are evident in Elly Louise’s entire collection. From bridal, evening and by the pool, there is something in Elly’s collection to give you an exclusive yet classic look.
